If you're looking for downloads, check out the soulful piano-driven opener "Lay Me Back Down", the folksy "Created" and the greatest song on the album - "Colors."īut for the full effect you really just need to buy the album. These boys have managed to combine experiemtal musicianship with brilliantly simple and accessible lyrics to produce what I consider one of the best albums of the year.

I reviewed this album a while ago for Shockwave, lost my access to it, and just got it back again - and I couldn't be happier. At first I thought they were really pretentious because they have a period in the middle of their name, but their music made me get over that assumption. The Man from Wasilla, Alaska (yes, Sarah Palin's Wasilla) and they are ridiculous. PS - Bought the new Ray Lamontagne album last night (another guy I missed when he came here last month) - review to come.Ĭensored Colors is an album that has just been killing me lately.

Hopefully I will end up seeing Tea Leaf Green at the Recher next weekend though, which should lift my spirits! You have no idea how painful missing all of this is for me. If you missed the free download on (like I did) here is a link to the live video on youtube.

But the good news is Tweedy and the boys just teamed up with Fleet Foxes (who released the best debut album of the year this year - check it out) to cover the old Bob Dylan/The Band classic "I Shall Be Released." This is basically the greatest combination of bands and song in a long time. I was going to go see Wilco at the Lyric in December and was ridiculously excited about it - until the tickets sold out yesterday. If you don't catch the live stream I am sure it will be on demand on NPR's website after - they have an amazing archive that I always have lots of fun exploring. This is the first time I have heard some of their new stuff and it is just as great as you would expect coming from these guys. I am listening to it right now and it is fantastic - this is a band that I really do have to see live. And even though I can't be there, at least I have this stream of their show at the Electric Factory in Philly tonight, thanks to NPR's amazing music website. So in honor of all these amazing concerts that I will not be attending, I present you with some of the music that I am enjoying to ease the pain.įirstly, the Decemberists are playing Ram's Head tomorrow. And that is happening twice (at least) in the near future. There are few things that make me sadder than when one of my favorite bands is in town and I can't go.
